Photocatalytic Decontamination and Self-Cleaning Additives

Decontamination

Decontaminating construction materials are key in large polluted urban centers where decreasing environmental contamination levels is a priority.

There is no doubt that, air pollution has harmful effects with a negative impact on people’s health. This contamination is usually produced as by products of human activity and is concentrated mainly in large cities, which is precisely where a large portion of the world’s population agglutinates.

ADINS® Clean is a photocatalytic additive used for example in building facades and asphalts to remove contaminants present in the atmosphere (NOx and VOCs).

Self-Cleaning

Photocatalytic products to increase the organic material degradation and the kinetic of process.

The use of these additives allows obtaining self-cleaning surfaces, where the dirt is not accumulated. ADINS ®Clean offers a solution to avoid the agglomeration of the catalyst particles (TiO2) and increases effectiveness by supporting the TiO2 particles on an inorganic substrate.

The surfaces of materials exposed to aggressive meteorological environments suffer degradations with the passing of time. The presence of dust, physical contaminants, and chemicals in the environment contributes to this degradation. Among other factors humidity, precipitation, and wind bring these environmental contaminants to the surfaces of materials, making their aesthetic aspect and durability worsen as the time goes by.

ADINS® Clean

  • A functional additive based on a silicate doped with photocatalytic species which introduces in the host systems the capacity for removing organic matter from the surface by the action of light.
  • Incorporates an innovative technology, which allows using lower dosages than photocatalytic based products, since ADINS ®Clean is more active than any other photocatalytic particle.
  • Provides an effective solution to avoid the agglomeration problems and handling of the catalyst particles (TiO2), increasing their effectiveness by supporting the TiO2 particles on an inorganic substrate.
  • Is used to maintain an unaltered aesthetic aspect over long periods of time in a surface, reducing the costs of maintenance and improving the environmental quality of zones in which it is applied. The photocatalytic additive allows to reduce the concentration of contaminants (NOx or VOCs), which are generated to a great extent by the intensity of traffic in large urban centers.
  • ADINS ® Clean is suitable to be used in cement based materials, ceramics, glazes and coatings to obtain self-cleaning or decontaminant surfaces.
