We care for our families and their community.

At Tolsa, we work to improve the environment and the lives of the communities where we operate. 

Our project in Senegal ensures schooling for over 350 children and medical assistance for over 150 families in need. 

In addition, this year we ran a free breast and uterine cancer awareness and early detection campaign, helping 200 women from communities near our centres in Senegal.

We collaborate through the distribution of food and other basic necessities.

Every year in Senegal we run campaigns to distribute and donate school supplies, food and hygiene products to 400 families living in the villages around our facilities in Pognene, Allou Kagne, Lam, Mbodiene and Warrang.

Our priority is to ensure occupational health, professional development and work-life balance for our workers.

This commitment includes health monitoring campaigns and social audits to ensure well-being and compliance with labour law at each and every one of our centres, under conditions of safety and equality. 

Tolsa has been awarded the Ecovadis Silver Medal for Corporate Social Responsibility and meets BSCI standards.

We believe in the continual development of our employees and the communities in which we operate.

As well as providing schooling for 350 children in need, our project in Senegal also includes adult literacy programmes as an incentive to boost professional development. 

At Tolsa we want to help our employees develop their full potential and ensure we are aligned with the needs of a constantly changing environment. To meet our employees’ development concerns and the company’s organisational needs, our Talent department provides employees with a variety of programmes and training courses to boost participation and their professional growth. These include our mentoring programme (Mates), our high potential identification and development programme (HIPO), reception and career plans, performance reviews and management by objective.

One of our corporate values, ROOTS, focusses on diversity as a differentiating factor. Therefore, one of our priorities is to understand and use this diversity as a driver for growth in the right direction. Implementing our diversity policy establishes our principles of equality and the necessary mechanisms to help us channel the concerns of the different groups in our team and help them detect and remove ‘invisible barriers’.

We are committed to responsible water consumption.

We make maximum use of natural resources to minimise our environmental impact by, for example, storing rainwater in our factories for watering gardens, cleaning services and supplying our fire-fighting systems. Thanks to these measures, we are able to significantly reduce our consumption of drinking water.

Towards energy efficiency and renewable energy sources.

At Tolsa we believe an effective energy reduction and use programme is possible and we work to measure and correct inefficiencies.

Efficient energy use is the first step. Tolsa has invested in ending natural gas-based cogeneration and seeking renewable energy sources.

Another example of our commitment to decarbonisation is the conversion of our fleet of fork-lift trucks to electric models and the installation of an electric vehicle charging station for the private use of our employees in Madrid.

We care our People

Our People management and leadership model is based on the study and management of each important phase in an employee’s life cycle. Environmental, social and ethical commitments are the essential pillars for our company’s growth.

Tolsa and Industry 4.0.

In starting up this exciting project we aim to digitise all our factories. I4.0 is a reinvention of our way of producing and working, making more efficient use of information and technology to increase our competitiveness.

The implementation of the MES (Manufacturing Execution System) has several objectives:

• Automated, real-time monitoring of the packaging lines.
• Automated calculation of the overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) percentage.
• Digitisation of production reports.
• Automation and centralisation of breakdown and incident alerts for each process line in real time.
• Automated report on production amounts and times and integration in our ERP.

We support the groups most in need.

At Tolsa we support the most in need, prioritising the selection of socially responsible suppliers whenever possible.

For years, Tolsa has been working with special employment centres to support the inclusion of people with physical and mental disabilities. The assigned projects include producing charity Christmas hampers, paper destruction campaigns and catering services, while also outsourcing the facility cleaning and gardening services at some of our centres.

We can contribute to creating more sustainable cities.

Actions such as teleworking and implementing car sharing at our factories favour reduction in the use of private vehicles, thus helping reduce emissions.

Some of our products (Adins) are used to reduce pollution in our cities by capturing CO2.

Our Petcare division works to develop ever more sustainable products, through natural, compostable raw materials and reducing plastic in our packaging to facilitate recycling by our customers with more sustainable products.

At Tolsa we are pioneers in responsible use of resources.

We promote a zero-waste policy and reuse the mineral waste generated by our production processes. We use natural resources to the full to minimise our environmental impact, incorporating natural airing techniques in our mineral drying processes, using heat from the sun, significantly reducing our energy consumption.

At Tolsa, we believe sustainable mining is possible.

As well as meeting the legal obligations at each of our mines, we pride ourselves on using environmentally friendly extraction methods. Part of this commitment is to ensuring the restoration of land to its original state and conducting environmental impact studies needed to protect biodiversity.

Our ISO 14001:2015, UNE 22480:2019 and UNE 22470:2019 SUSTAINABLE MINING certificates guarantee that all our mines and factories have environmentally friendly, sustainable management systems.

We work with our employees to minimise waste and carry out awareness-raising campaigns.

Zero paper, elimination of single-use plastics in our facilities, distribution of reusable face masks and sustainability training are just some of the campaigns we have conducted this year.

At Tolsa, we believe sustainable mining is possible.

In addition to having Sustainable Mining certificates, we are actively committed to generating a positive impact wherever we operate, through such measures as our yearly reforestation campaigns. Through our commitment to creating and maintaining our Tolsa Forest.

We have joined the United Nations Global Compact, our commitment to a sustainable future.

At Tolsa we are proud of our membership of the United Nations Global Compact, a step further in developing our Sustainability Strategy. The mission of the United Nations Global Compact is to generate an international movement of sustainable companies and encourage companies and organisations to align their strategies and operations with the Ten Universal Principles on human rights, labour, the environment and combating corruption, and to promote the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Our innovation model is open and collaborative.

Our dissemination activities are a clear example of our OPEN corporate values, which means being open to opportunities, developing new learnings and, in particular, sharing the knowledge in which we are experts. For this reason, each year our team of experts takes part in joint projects with other companies, institutions, associations and training centres and in conducting workshops to explain the importance of minerals in our daily lives and in developing their application in industry.
